SUMMARY:EXHIBITION OPENING RECEPTION - This Land
DESCRIPTION:Get the first look of The Church's Summer Exhibition This Land:
Considering the American Landscape.\nThe Church is delighted to announce
our Summer 2026 exhibition\, This Land: Considering the American Landscape
\, curated by Donna De Salvo and Seph Rodney\, opening on June 20 and on v
iew through September 6.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Responding to the prompt ‘What is
the American landscape?\,’ a question timed to reflect this year of our
nation’s 250th&nbsp\;anniversary\, De Salvo and Rodney have conceived of
a transhistorical exhibition that explores artistic responses to the Amer
ican landscape both at its inception and today.\n\nThe presentation will f
eature important works by artists associated with the Hudson River School\
, often thought to be the first true American art movement. Pivotal loans
from neighboring institutions underscore the cultural and artistic history
of the region: the Parrish Art Museum\, the East End’s oldest instituti
on\, founded in 1898\, will contribute Hudson River School paintings by As
 her B. Durand\, Thomas Doughty\, Charles Henry Miller\, Thomas Moran\, Mar
y Nimmo Moran\, and Albert Pinkham Ryder\, highlighting the Parrish’s co
llection and role in presenting American art\; Guild Hall\, founded in 193
1\, will lend a painting by Thomas Moran\, who was based in East Hampton\,
underscoring the legacy of the institution as a meeting place for area ar
 tists with its&nbsp\;galleries and theater\; and Dia&nbsp\;Art Foundation\
, who will be lending selections of Hudson River School works on paper whi
ch they acquired in consultation with Dan Flavin as part of their long-ter
m relationship with the artist\, a partnership that also included the foun
ding of the Dan Flavin Art Institute at Dia Bridgehampton.\nMore informati
