  American Revolutionary War\, British ships moored off Fort Pond Bay threa
 tened raids on colonists’ cattle grazing Montauk’s grasslands. Hear th
 e story of how Captain John Dayton prevented the raid\, take in the first 
 signs of spring\, listen to bird song\, and learn about the rare plants in
  this unique maritime grassland. This will be a slow-paced .5-mile loop hi
 ke with the option to turn
