DESCRIPTION:The Sweet Island Dulcimer group was formed 6 years ago by Music
  Director Linda Betjeman. Appalachian lap dulcimers\, also called "mountai
 n dulcimers" are uniquely American\, originally built and played by early 
 settlers in the Appalachian Mountains. The instrument has had a resurgence
  in popularity in the last 20 years and there are now dulcimer groups acro
 ss the country. Sweet Island Dulcimer players specialize in traditional ea
 rly American hymns\, ballads\, and folk music\, and's have expanded their 
 repertoire to include cowboy songs\, world music and sea chanteys.\n\nThis
  year in honor of out nation's 250th birthday\, popular songs from the Col
 onial period have been added to their programs. The group has performed fo
 r churches\, children's gatherings\, farmer's markets\, libraries\, and mu
 seums. Instrumentalists are: Susan Ahlborn\, Marianne Baird\, Cindy Belt\,
  Karin Bennett\, Wendy Clark\, Anne Danforth\, Christina Herman\, Vicky Ko
