Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center Screening Oscars® Shorts And Marilyn Monroe Classic

The weekend before the 92nd Oscars®, you can brush up on the Nominated Live Action Shorts at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center (WHBPAC) during their yearly screening.

Presented by Shorts HD and Magnolia Pictures, audiences will be treated to Delphine Girard’s A Sister (Belgium, 16 minutes), Meryan Joobeur’s Brotherhood (Tunisia, 25 minutes), Marshall Curry’s The Neighbors’ Window (USA, 20 minutes), Bryan Buckley’s Saria (USA, 23 minutes), and Yves Piat’s Nefta Football Club (Tunisia/France, 17 minutes).

“Packs a powerful emotional punch… A model of economical storytelling,” The Daily Beast said about The Neighbors’ Window, while IndieWire noted, “One short that stands apart from the others: The Neighbors’ Window, from Oscar-nominated documentary director Marshall Curry, offers a fresh twist on a voyeuristic conceit.”

The Oscar®-Nominated Short Films (Live Action) can be seen on Friday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, February 1 at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, February 2 at 4 p.m.

Additionally, WHBPAC will host a special Valentine’s Day screening of Some Like It Hot.

The film follows sly saxophone player Joe (Tony Curtis) and his friend, Jerry (Jack Lemmon), who after witnessing a Mafia murder devise an exit strategy from Chicago. The duo disguise themselves as women, join an all-female jazz band, and board a Florida bound train. As Joe pretends to be rich to win the attention of the band’s sultry singer, Sugar (Marilyn Monroe), Jerry catches the eye of an actual millionaire (Joe E. Brown) and the thugs close in.

Monroe’s portray earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Lemmon was also recognized for his work with a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

“A funny film with an odd flavour of humour,” a 1959 The Guardian review said of the Billy Wilder film.

The classic will screen on Friday, February 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets range from $5 to $15.
