Alec Baldwin and French Presse are paying tribute to Sarah de Havenon, who founded the bedding and lifestyle boutique in the Amagansett Square, during Sarah’s Day on Saturday, July 13 from 12 to 4 p.m. After a courageous two-year battle with Glioblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer, de Havenon passed away in 2018.
“My mom was a tremendously inclusive, charitable and fun-loving person,” Dylan Fowler, Sarah de Havenon’s son, reflected. “We wanted to put together an event that celebrated that spirit.”
de Havenon grew up in New York City and visited East Hampton on weekends and vacations while growing up, before eventually settling in Amagansett. As the area has changed tremendously over the years, she founded French Presse to bring back the inherent joy of a slower era, creating an inviting and peaceful space in the heart of Amagansett.
Sarah’s Day will feature live music will from The Woodworkers, Lynn Blumenfeld, and more, bites by Estia’s Little Kitchen, Art of Eating and Cavaniolas, and a communal chanting session led by Mandala Yoga Center for Healing Arts.
It will also serve as an opportunity to raise awareness for CancerCare, a non-profit organization committed to assisting people deal with the emotional, practical and financial challenges of cancer. “We felt a free community party with channels for raising awareness and funds for CancerCare, an organization near and dear to my family, was the perfect solution,” Fowler shared.
Sarah’s Day organizers set out to create an inclusive event that all could celebrate, so there is no admission fee. “We did not want anyone excluded due to ticket pricing and wanted to make sure we gave back in some way to the Amagansett community, which provided so much for my family during my Mom’s illness,” Fowler added.
In remembrance of de Havenon, French Presse will donate 15 percent of all proceeds from sales from the weekend (online and in-store) to CancerCare and the Hilaria and Alec Baldwin Foundation will provide a donation to the organization. French Presse will also offer limited edition products and select sale items during the weekend. Additionally, there will be a silent auction, with proceeds supporting CancerCare.
Sarah’s Day will take place at 160 Main Street in Amagansett.
