Montauk “Women Making Waves” Themed “One Ocean” Benefit To Commemorate Jayma Cardoso

Surfrider Foundation will present the first of its bicoastal 5th annual One Ocean event on Saturday, July 13. The “Women Making Waves” themed soiree will honor coastal activist and owner of the Surf Lodge, Jayma Cardoso, while supporting the safeguarding of clean water and healthy beaches.

“I got involved with Surfrider about five years ago at the first One Ocean benefit in Montauk, New York,” Cardoso relayed. “Before then, I had no idea how bad the water quality was in some of the ponds and lakes in our community. I did some research and decided to help clean up Fort Pond, where my coastal business, the Surf Lodge, is located.”

This past spring, the Surf Lodge upgraded its septic wastewater system to an Innovative and Alternative On-Site Wastewater Treatment System. Additional eco-friendly changes made by the Montauk hotspot include eliminating plastic drinking straws, cups, and bottles, incorporating custom drink-ware made from IngeoTM biopolymer, a PLA resin derived from plants that is 100 percent compostable, and going single-use plastic free.

One Ocean will begin with a cocktail hour from 5 to 7 p.m. with gourmet appetizers, wine from Out East Rosé, premium hand-crafted cocktails featuring Don Q Rum and Tito’s Handmade Vodka, a silent auction, and live music by Wild Belle, plus a guest DJ. Dinner, a program, awards ceremony and the live auction will follow.

We’re especially pleased to honor Jayma Cardoso, who has made substantial investments to ensure the Surf Lodge reduces plastic pollution and advances clean water.”

“I was also moved by Surfrider’s impact. Everything the organization stands for, everything you say you’re going to do, you do it,” Cardoso added. “There is a lot of integrity behind Surfrider.”

Later on in the year, Surfrider will host its Los Angeles One Ocean Event. The Saturday, October 5 benefit will honor Kim Johnson of the Kokua Hawaii Foundation.

Tickets to One Ocean Montauk begin at $100.

The Surfrider Foundation’s focus is “the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network.” Locally, the Eastern Long Island Surfrider’s campaigns include stopping new offshore oil drilling, transparent recycling practices on Long Island, reducing water quality impacts on Little Fresh Pond, finding the source of pollution at Little Fresh Pond, and stopping the Army Corps – Montauk Lighthouse Seawall, while programs include the Blue Water Task Force, Ocean Friendly Gardens, Strawless Summer, Rise Above Plastics, and Ocean Friendly Restaurants.
