East End Special Players Host Create Fair, an Outdoor Festival

East End Special Players is pleased to announce that on Saturday, September 24th, they will host Create Fair, an outdoor festival to highlight the creative work of the Explorers Program, and offer a sneak peek of the 2022 East End Special Players production, Turtles On the Tarmac.

The Explorers program, launched by East End Special Players in 2014, offers weekly cooking classes, art making, field trips and other creative learning projects for people who have few such opportunities. Create Fair will provide an opportunity for the general public to experience the creative output of the Explorers and Players.

Create Fair: Come experience the creative output of the East End Special Players and Explorers at the Southampton Art Center’s plein air space at 25 Jobs Lane in Southampton Village, 2 – 3:30 p.m. on Saturday September 24, 2022.

Featuring photography, drumming, painting, performance, the culinary arts, mural drawing and more.

Who are The Explorers? Like the East End Special Players they are a group of adults with diverse abilities and special health needs who meet weekly to develop their creative skills. Many also perform with the Players. At Create Fair the Explorers will showcase their creative output and the Players will present a sneak preview scene from the troupe’s new play, Turtles On the Tarmac. Due to COVID, the Players have not been able to perform on stage for two years, but this does not mean they haven’t been developing their play and rehearsing. The full production will be presented in December at Bay Street Theater. Fans will recall the last EESP play, Whimsey World and can expect Turtles On the Tarmac to be just as fun and frolicking.

In 2020, The Explorers, guided by artist Patricia Maurides, published Seeing Happiness, a book of original photographs of places that make them happy. The book and original photographs along with performing skills, story-telling, clay sculpting, a large-scale chalk mural, the fine art of drumming, and healthy culinary delights will be showcased at the fair.

“The creativity of the Explorers and Players never ceases to amaze,” said board chair Chris Siefert. “We invite everyone to stop by and enjoy the talents of these remarkable artists.”

A family friendly event, all ages are invited to participate in the arts activities and to meet and share creative energy with the Explorers and Players. The event is free to the public.

The Mission of The East End Special Players (EESP) is to enhance the lives of adults with diverse abilities and special health care needs by providing opportunities for self-expression through theater performance and artistic experiences. EESP fosters a growing sense of self-confidence by mentoring and teaching skills that can be showcased to the community.
