Traveling Film Festival Featuring Documentary Shorts Screening In The Hamptons

Mountainfilm, one of America’s longest-running film festivals, is making its way to the Hamptons. Held every Memorial Day weekend in Telluride, Colorado, the Festival features top independent international documentary films. It also travels around the world to showcase Festival picks year-round.

Southampton Arts Center will host a specially curated selection of Mountainfilm on Tour films that showcase the Festival’s mission: “using the power of film, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world” – on Friday, September 14 and Saturday, September 15.

Opening Night screenings (on Friday at 7 p.m.) will include Joey Schusler and Aidan Haley’s RJ Ripper, Riley Hooper’s Why Not Now, Michelle Smith’s The Frenchy, Lacy Kemp’s Intersection: Micayla Gatto, Skye Fitzgerald’s Lifeboat, Asha Stuart’s Lost Tribe of Africa, and Wylie Overstreet’s A New View of the Moon.

Saturday will kick-off at 4 p.m. with a special Spanish Film Program that focuses on Latin American culture, recent happenings and athletic escapades. Viewings will feature Paul Storrie, Chris Lee, and Charlie Kwai’s The Piñata King, Dominic Gill’s Climbing out of a Disaster, Jim Cricchi’s Los Lecheros, Pep Cuberes’ Ser, Paola Mendoza’s Free Like The Birds, Gabriela Cavanagh’s Manuel and Corey McLean’s Yojani: A Cuba Skate Story.

Closing Night films (screening on Saturday at 7 p.m.) include RC Cone’s My Mom Vala, Eric Crosland’s Love by All: The Story of Apa Sherpa, Stian Smestad’s Hayley: 90 Seconds on Fear, Nick Waggoner and Zac Ramras’ The Wolf Pack, Renan Ozturk and Taylor Rees’ Life Coach, Jérémy Frey’s Surf the Line, Jon Klaczkiewicz’s Beyond the Horizon, and Anjali Nayar’s Escape.

“We are thrilled to host Asha Stuart, Director of Lost Tribe of Africa and JaBig, subject of Escape who rode 17,000 kilometers on his bicycle from Montreal to the Arctic Ocean,” Elyn Kronemeyer, sponsor of Mountainfilm on Tour Southampton and SAC Board Member, reflected. “As special guests – they will be honored at Saturday’s Filmmakers Party and will host Q&A’s after each night’s screening.” After viewing over 100 short documentaries that were showcased at the Mountainfilm Festival, Kronemeyer curated the selection that will be seen at SAC.

The Filmmakers Reception will be held on Saturday at 6 p.m.
