Parrish Art Museum will welcome two multicultural, interactive performances on Thursday, July 12 and Wednesday, July 18.
On July 12, the group Feraba will perform African Rhythm Tap. The term Feraba is from the Sousou of Guinea, West Africa. It can be translated to mean “Do something to make people happy.” The dance company fuses together tap dance and West African drumming. In a high energy, entertaining performance, the audience will experience the relationship between the two.
On July 18, Reaction Dance Company (RXN) will present the Globalization of Hip Hop. Founded in 2014 by Artistic Director Juliette Nieves, a graduate of Pace University’s dance program, the group curates a selection of Bollywood, Latin, Hip-Hop, Contemporary and Jazz dance to represent New York’s extensive cultural diversity. The interactive performance will show the creation and transformation of hip-hop throughout the world.
The two dance groups will also give morning performances at the Southampton Youth Association (S.Y.A) summer program at Southampton Elementary School. The Parrish Museum performances will be attended by students and campers from Southampton Public Schools S.T.A.R. program and Bridgehampton Childcare and Recreation Center (BHCCRC).
“We are delighted that—through our ongoing partnerships with S.Y.A., S.T.A.R., and BHCCRC—these performances will reach hundreds of local children not only at the Parrish, but throughout our community,” said Parrish Education Director Cara Conklin-Wingfield.
Both performances will begin at 1:30 pm. The shows are free for children and students and are free with museum admission for adults. Reservations are recommended.
