
One of the great pleasures of life on the east end is its vibrant “live” performing arts platforms with programing all year ’round. This summer there are many wonderful shows and live performance events scheduled, and tickets are available. Here is just a taste of the shows and galas that will be presented in the weeks to come. It might be wise to plan ahead for weekend shows. Watch for reviews and previews that will be forthcoming on hamptons.com for these events and other programming at these venues. Here is a brief overview for the immediate beginning of the summer season.
Bay Street Theater, now in its tenth season under the direction of Artistic Director Scott Schwartz, will be presenting their first Mainstage show, Double Helix, for the 2023 season. Double Helix, a musical, will have its World Premiere on May 30th on the Bay Street stage! Set in the nineteen-fifties in England, this show centers around Rosalind Franklin’s epic story about her key role in the race to discover the structure of DNA. Scott Schwartz is directing this Madeline Myers show. The show will run from May 30th to June 8th. The show will have a live, diversely talented five-piece ensemble.
Opening up in Quoque on May 25th at the Quogue Theater will be The Portuguese Kid, a play by John Patrick Shanley. Terry Brennan, General Manger of the Hampton Theatre Company, said, “We’re really excited about The Portuguese Kid. It’s the perfect, feel-good, hysterically funny vehicle for the end of our season and the start of summer, and we have a great cast of HTC veterans Andrew Botsford, Rosemary Cline and Vay David, along with some wonderful, bright young talent in newcomers Esmeralda Cabrera and David Cardali. The WHBPAC on Sunday, May 28th will be presenting Live Music with the program titled, Rising Stars Piano Series, starring Jacopo and Maddalena Giacopuzzi, they The show is scheduled for Sunday May 28 at 8 PM.
The Southampton Cultural Center (SCC ) is also launching something new and exciting called “ARTACON.”Roger Sichel’s Artacom Southampton is to be a hands-on immersive exhibition where art, sculpture, fashion performance, in all forms meets it’s tech future of Oculus, VR, nfts, ai fractional and more. Kate Mueth, Founder and Artistic Director of The Neo-Political Cowgirls, shared that on June 10th, in East Hampton, they will have a fundraiser for the dance theater company, an arts and advocacy gala titled ANDROMEDA’S SISTERS. It will be held at the Leiber Collection, 446 Old Stone Highway, East Hampton from 4PM- 6:30 PM. It will be the 7th Arts and Advocacy Gala and honors Julie Hermanson of The Ellen Hermanson Foundation, also Blythe Danner, Dr. Florence Rolston (OB/GYN), Pooya Mohseni (OBIE awardee, Advocate) and Rahma Soliman, a UN Migration Officer.
Guild Hall is holding its “Garden As Art,” 2023 on Saturday, June 24th at 158 Main Street in East Hampton. The folks at Guild Hall invite those interested to “Join us for this special day featuring a morning talk and a self-guided tour of four incredible private East Hampton Village gardens. “The Bay Street Gala” returns to Sag Harbor and will be held on July 8th. There is one huge new change. This will be the first time ever that the Gala will be held on the premises of Bay Street Theater. This year’s Gala will honor Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker and Julie Andrews. Also, here’s some news from LTV in East Hampton! Nicole Castillo of LTV has announced that “LTV, the East End’s ONLY broadcast station, is making a move to be among the arts and entertainment space with some high-caliber events this summer, such as award-winning native American fashion design, Jazz Piano Masters, Cabaret artists, Playwright’s Theatre with up and coming playwrights and World Class Orchestra musicians.”
