Plan on giving your vehicle a good scrubbing this weekend? Instead, head to Southampton Elementary School on Saturday, May 19 where Southampton High School’s Rotary Interact Club will do it for you, and by getting your car washed, you’ll be supporting Heart of the Hamptons (HOH) – as proceeds will support HOH’s food pantry.
“We are delighted to see Southampton High Schoolers take part in community service,” Heart of the Hamptons Director, Hilton Crosby shared. “The funds they raise for us will enable us to increase the reach of our food pantry program, which in 2017 distributed 68,931 meals to 468 registered households and families – 1,214 clients.”
The car wash will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Rotary Interact, a community service club, offers the opportunity for students to develop leadership skills, and also encourages youth to give back to their community through events like this charity car wash.
Heart of the Hamptons, previously known as Human Resources of the Hamptons, was founded over 30 years ago as a small food pantry and to provide emergency assistance outreach in the area. Since then, the organization’s reach has greatly expanded, now serving over 450 households, or more than 1200 people. Additionally, the non-profit offers a multi-faceted Assistance Program with crisis intervention, medical assistance funding, support for seniors, educational provisions and summer lunches for children, and a meals program for the homebound. HOH’s mission is to assist “people in our local community who are in need, without discrimination, in a dignified manner.”
“In 2018, we have already distributed 25,551 meals,” Crosby added.
There’s no set fee for a car wash, those who swing by are just asked to make a donation to HOH.
Southampton Elementary School is located at 30 Pine Street in Southampton. For more information about Heart of the Hamptons, call 631-283-6415 or visit heartofthehamptons.org.
