The Joshua Levine Memorial Foundation And Slow Food East End Hosting Eighth Annual “A Moveable Feast”

The Joshua Levine Memorial Foundation and Slow Food East End are joining forces again to present “A Moveable Feast,” an evening of celebration on Sunday, March 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dodds & Eder Landscape Design Showroom in Sag Harbor. This event will honor Joshua Levin and support Edible School Gardens on the East End. This is the event’s eighth iteration and it has helped grow the Edible School Gardens into one of the largest, most successful school garden programs in the United States with a total of 27 involved schools.

“A Moveable Feast” is the kick-off of the spring season and the waking up of the earth and community after winter. The evening will include a great party with exceptional food and drink, along with music. The best chefs and food and beverage purveyors on the East End will participate in “A Moveable Feast” as supporters of the Slow Food mission.

“Building a sustainable farm and food community on the East End is important and rewarding. Local food businesses need to support each other to make this movement a reality,” said Carissa Waechter of Carissa’s Breads.

Sam Kass, Food Entrepreneur and former White House Chef and Senior Policy Advisor for Nutrition under the Obama administration, will serve as the event’s keynote speaker. Kass joined the White House kitchen staff in 2009 as assistant chef and, in 2010, became food initiative coordinator. Richard McCarthy, head of Slow Food USA, will moderate the conversation with Kass.

Additionally, the evening will feature Edible School Gardens student farmers who will share some of their experiences in the garden. There will also be a silent auction featuring items donated from local farms, fishermen, restaurants, vineyards and merchants on the East End and beyond. This year there are donation opportunities to sponsor a Farmer, Fisherman or Forager. These donations will allow them to invite and show our appreciation to some of the community members who grow, catch, hunt or gather our magnificent local food. Their mission is to promote good farming practices, education, a sustainable environment and healthy eating for children and their families.

Tickets for the evening are $100 for members and $150 for non-members. Members will receive a one-time savings of $25 when two or more tickets are purchased. Funds raised from this event keep the Edible School Gardens Program flourishing by providing stipends for three Master Farmers and Mini Grants to be used for the purchase of garden tools, supplies and materials.
