The Southampton Arts Center (SAC) will mark the close of 2017 with a final exhibition of photographer Michael Halsband’s portraiture. The exhibition will open on Friday, November 17 with a public reception to follow on Saturday, November 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. Visitors will have until the final day of the year, Sunday, December 31, to view Halsband Portraits.

The work to be featured at the SAC will span over four decades and include the iconic photographs of Andy Warhol with boxer Jean-Michel Basquiat, and the Rolling Stones performing in Kentucky in 1981. As part of the exhibit, Halsband will be leading gallery tours on Sunday, November 19 and Sunday, December 3 at 12 p.m. for no additional fee.
Halsband is a New York native who studied at the School of Visual Arts. With a passion for photography from a very early age, it no surprise that he went on to photograph Andy Warhol, have his work featured in Vogue, and become the tour photographer for the Rolling Stones, having been personally asked by Mick Jagger. His work has also been featured at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, the Tel Aviv Museum, and the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art. He currently serves as adjunct faculty at his alma mater and is working on a book about his time touring with the Rolling Stones during their “Tattoo You” North American tour of 1981.
“We are incredibly excited to have Michael Halsband close out the year with this 6th and final exhibition,” shared Amy Kirwin, the Director of Programs at SAC. “His vast catalog of photographs will appeal to all visitors, with many recognizable faces and other striking imagery representing the path his storied career has taken over the years.”
