This week I met with Yesenia G. Quichimbo, see our conversation below.

 

How did you get started in real estate?

 

Real estate has always been a part of my life in one way or another. My father was a builder before transitioning into the food industry, and I have vivid memories of him building our house in Montauk in the mid-90s. The day we closed on that house was a monumental moment for my parents — a true sense of pride and belonging. Seeing that excitement really shaped my perspective on real estate as a big, life-changing goal.

 

Growing up in a family business, I learned early on the importance of relationships and building strong connections—lessons that have stayed with me in my real estate career. Before diving into real estate, I spent over a decade in property insurance, specializing in high-end properties. I found it fascinating because every property in this area is so unique.

 

It was really when I bought and renovated my first home that my passion for real estate was ignited. It took me back to my parents’ experience and that same sense of pride, security, and belonging. Later, we bought an income-producing property upstate that required a lot of work, but once renovated, it provided us with passive income. Those experiences led me to start having deeper conversations with friends and family about investing, which ultimately pushed me to get my real estate license.

 

I joined Saunders and within a few months had my first property under contract. It’s been an incredible journey!

 

You are very active on social media – how do you make such great content??

 

Thank you! I’m flattered because I am a total amateur in terms of content. That said, I try to stay authentic and connected with what’s happening in both the real estate world and my community. I try to share things that resonate with people — whether it’s market updates, behind-the-scenes moments, or tips for homeowners and buyers. I also love highlighting what makes the Hamptons so special from events, Taste of Peruvian Culture at Baker House, to trail walks with stunning views. And honestly, it’s a lot of fun!

 

You represent a property at 121 Stoney Hill Road – one of my favorite places in the Hamptons – can you describe this area?

 

Living in Sag Harbor is truly special, and there are so many things I adore about this place. One of my favorites is Long Beach in the summer – it’s the perfect spot to unwind and catch sunsets. Bay Street Theatre holds a special place in my heart, too. My daughter is involved in ballet and acting, so we’re there often. It’s such a vibrant part of the community, with incredible performances, comedy nights, and so much more to enjoy. What really stands out to me about Sag Harbor is its year-round community. It’s not just a summer town; there’s always something going on – there’s a real sense of connection here.

 

What advice do you have for a first-time buyer in the Hamptons?

 

Build your team. This means finding a strategic mortgage broker, a knowledgeable attorney, and of course, a trusted local realtor (me!). These are the people who will guide you through the process and help you cross the finish line successfully. Once you have your team in place, it’s time to really think about what you must have in a home versus what would be nice to have. Be open-minded and flexible — it’s easy to get caught up in the idea of the perfect home, but being receptive to new possibilities is key. Don’t stress, your first house might not be your forever home and that’s ok. It’s a stepping stone, and you’ll learn a lot from the process that will help you in the future.

Take your time, trust your team, and enjoy the journey — buying your first home is an exciting milestone!

 

Outside of real estate, you are quite active in the community. Project Most comes to mind – How did you first get involved with Project MOST, and what made you want to be part of it?

 

I first heard about Project MOST a while ago, but it wasn’t until last summer that I truly understood its impact on the community. I attended its annual fundraiser at Moby’s, and that’s when I really learned about its mission. Through its enrichment programs, children are not only supported but also inspired and encouraged to envision possibilities they might not have considered before.

 

What really struck me were the testimonies from Project MOST’s former elementary students who later returned as counselors. Hearing their stories was powerful—some had been exposed to things like coding through the program and have now gone on to become teachers themselves. It was a full-circle moment, and it really hit home how transformative Project MOST is, not just for the kids who participate, but for the community as a whole. That’s when I knew I wanted to be involved and support their incredible work.

 

What do you wish more people knew about Project MOST and its mission?

 

Just how deeply Project MOST impacts the future of children in our community. The organization truly opens young minds to a world of culture and experiences that they might not otherwise have access to. Through creative channels like art, music, and tutoring, as well as museum trips and interactive STEM experiments, Project MOST builds confidence and encourages personal growth in ways that are both inspiring and empowering.

 

At its core, Project MOST is about shaping the future. When we invest in children and give them the tools to explore their passions and potential, we’re directly investing in a brighter tomorrow for everyone. Their work is not just important for the kids they serve, but for the entire community and beyond.

 

How can people get involved or support Project MOST’s work?

 

Several ways! Our biggest fundraiser event takes place every July at Moby’s, and it’s a fantastic family-friendly event. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about what we do, meet the team, and see the impact firsthand. If you’re a local business, consider becoming a sponsor to help support our mission. No matter how you choose to get involved, just know that your support is making a huge difference in our community and truly helping to shape the future for the kids we serve.

 

What are the key items in your beach bag?

 

As a mom and realtor, my beach bag is about being prepared—and having fun! I never leave home without my Amber Waves trucker hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a quick-drying Turkish towel. Staying hydrated with iced water bottles is essential, and a good book is my sacred escape—even if just for ten pages at a time! I always keep a notebook handy for capturing ideas, memories, and quick scribbles.

 

For the kids, I pack watercolors and brushes to turn collected shells and rocks into art. Rainbow loom supplies are perfect for making friends, and of course, plenty of snacks—because hunger can strike anytime!

 

Who in the Hamptons community inspires you?

 

Undoubtedly my mother. She is the embodiment of strength, determination, and heart. Her story is nothing short of remarkable — from making the bold decision to leave everything she knew behind and move to the U.S., to teaching herself English through books from the library. She’s not only a self-made businesswoman but someone who empowers and uplifts everyone around her.

 

She bought her first business, and with hard work and perseverance, she built something incredible. But beyond that, it’s her ability to connect with people and her unwavering support for her community that truly stands out. She does it all — and she does it so well.

With help from our friends at Kidd Squid Brewery, we sampled a variety of options at their tasting room in Sag Harbor. Here are our top picks.⁠

You can’t go anywhere in the Hamptons without grabbing a glass of Wolffer’s iconic Rosé. Don’t fret! You can still enjoy the iconic, vibrant, fruity taste with their non-alcoholic version. ⁠

Tasting notes: It’s no surprise that it is a favorite in The Hamptons. The lack of alcohol doesn’t affect the rich, elegant rose, peach, and apple notes. This is a delicious, fresh, sparkling rosé.⁠

Is a locally owned company that produces crispy non-alcoholic beers that perfectly mirror their alcoholic counterparts. I tried their Easy Down Lager, and it was perfect!⁠

Tasting notes: It pours out like a beer with a nice frothy top layer. It is crisp and smooth and reminds me of a Sapporo.⁠

Another locally owned company that produces non-alcoholic drinks crafted by award-winning mixologists. I fell in love with their credo, “Life should be sipped slowly.” I tried their Chili Margarita and loved the sparkling citrus notes with a bit of a kick. It’s infused with adaptogens and nootropics, which are thought to reduce stress, elevate your mood, and overall just deliver that perfect chill for any social setting.⁠

Tasting notes: Crisp and tangy, with very strong citrus notes, this reminded me of kombucha. It was very refreshing.⁠

  • Experience seals in their natural environment! The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that Montauk Point State Park will host a series of hikes to observe wintering seals. Beginning in January 2026 and continuing through April 2026, a State Park naturalist will lead visitors on a scenic beach walk to an area where up to five species of seals can be observed. ⁠

  • Pitch Your Peers (PYP) Hamptons Chapter, a philanthropy initiative, awarded two local non-profits at its 3rd annual Pitch Day on October 25th at Scoville Hall in Amagansett. Philanthropic women from the community are the driving force behind PYP The Hamptons. They identify and champion local non-profits that qualify for its annual collective grant. The grant pool for 2025 was $60,000. ⁠

PYP Members identified and pitched local organizations to be considered for their grant on Pitch Day on October 25th. Members voted, and this year’s first-place award of $50,000 was presented to The Retreat, while a second-place award of $10,000 was presented to Share the Harvest Farm. ⁠

What core mission drives the farm today, and how has that mission evolved since the beginning?⁠

Amanda & Katie: We met in 2008 while completing a farming apprenticeship at Quail Hill Farm where we both discovered our shared love of farming. By that July, we were already dreaming up ways to continue farming together in Amagansett. When we founded Amber Waves Farm, our vision was to build something greater than ourselves—something that would outlive us. Our original idea, the “Amagansett Wheat Project,” grew out of a daydream to create a “pizza farm,” and our name, Amber Waves, pays homage to grain production—a line from the song “America the Beautiful”. From the beginning, we chose to be a nonprofit because our mission—to teach and connect people through food and farming—has always been at the heart of what we do.⁠
