You only get one chance to make a first impression, so figure out what works for you, and then work it! Here are some ideas for making the most of your clothing and accessories so you won’t be forgotten.
As you may know, I’ve coordinated an outfit or two in my day—and let me tell you, when you look good, you feel good. Style doesn’t have to be complicated, but it should be intentional. It’s about knowing what works for you and wearing it with confidence. So whether you’re heading out for coffee or cocktails, I’ve got a few timeless tips to help you look polished, pulled together, and positively radiant. Now, let’s get you dressed to impress!
BE THOUGHTFUL
When you want to impress someone, the best thing you can do is show up looking your best. That doesn’t mean going over the top; it means being thoughtful. I always plan my outfit ahead of time. Standing in your closet five minutes before walking out the door? That’s a recipe for stress!
START WITH THE OUTFIT
Always begin with the outfit. Make sure it fits well and flatters your figure. A few darling sundresses are perfect for summer—cool, chic, and effortless. And don’t forget your staples—a crisp white shirt with sleeves rolled up two or three times; flattering white jeans worn just at the ankle bone; and a needlepoint or ribbon belt—or your Hermès belt, of course.
ALWAYS ACCESSORIZE
Let’s talk about accessories. Your shoes, earrings, and purse should all coordinate. I love gold or silver flats—they go with just about everything. Keep jewelry simple—hoops, studs, or pieces that play nicely with your outfit. And don’t forget your handbag! A classic straw bag works wonders.
HAIR MATTERS
Hair is your crowning glory, so give it some love. Use a mirror to check the back—what people see when you’re walking away matters, too! And always remember, posture is powerful. Stand tall with your shoulders back. It’s the secret to looking polished, no matter what you’re wearing.
SMILE LIKE YOU MEAN IT
Finally, put on that happy face. Your brain believes what your face is doing, and smiling tells it you’re happy. And you are—because you look amazing, you feel fabulous, and you’re ready to enjoy the night. For more inspiration, follow me on Instagram @suebelle.
