Project MOST students recently completed a very special project, Beading for a Cause. The children that attend the East Hampton-based after school enrichment program wanted to find a way to give back to the community, so they decided to worked together to make jewelry that was sold in support of a Shelter Island-based charity.
“The students were so engaged and focused as they made the beaded necklaces,” noted Rebecca Morgan Taylor, Executive Director of Project MOST.
Their efforts were incredibly successful, raising $922 from the jewelry sales, which they chose to donate to the Island Gift of Life Foundation, a non-profit, 501c(3) organization that offers financial assistance and other related support services to patients with life-threatening illnesses who reside on the East End.
The students were so fond of the project that they will move on to another artistic endeavor. “They loved the project,” shared Morgan Taylor. “The next project will be making beaded bracelets.”

The budding jewelry makers recently met with Shelter Island local, Springs teacher, and Island Gift of Life Foundation board member, Robin Streck, and fellow teacher and board member, Kate Collum, to present their impressive donation.
“We are incredibly touched by the spirit and generosity of the children in Project MOST,” shared Ken Lewis, President of the Island Gift of Life Foundation. “Support like this from the community is always moving and what our Foundation is built upon.”
