UPDATED: Alec Baldwin To Present Hamptons International Film Festival “To Kill A Mockingbird” Screening

Guild Hall in East Hampton is set to welcome the Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) for a screening of To Kill a Mockingbird on Saturday, January 7th at 7 p.m. This is the eight year the festival has shown a classic during the winter season. Alec Baldwin, HIFF’s Co-Chair, will be presenting this year’s film alongside HIFF’s Artistic Director, David Nugent. Nugent will host a conversation about To Kill A Mockingbird following the screening.

To Kill a Mockingbird, published in 1960, went on to win the Pulitzer Prize and became one of the most beloved works of fiction. The novel is a staple in school curriculums across the country. Two years after the novel was released, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Horton Foote adapted Harper Lee’s ragingly popular novel for the screen. The film went on to win an Oscar for Foote’s adaptation. To Kill a Mockingbird features a career defining turn by actor Gregory Peck and captures Lee’s exploration of race and class relations, gender roles, and a child’s loss of innocence.

“HIFF’s Winter Classic Screening is about highlighting classic films with a timeless appeal and keeping their legacy alive,” explained David Nuggent, HIFF Artistic Director. “Alec and I felt that To Kill a Mockingbird is especially timely due to its central theme of racial inclusion.”

The cast infamously revolves around Atticus Finch (Peck), Jean Louise “Scout” Finch (Mary Badham), Jeremy Atticus “Jem” Finch (Phillip Alford), Arthur “Boo” Radley (Robert Duvall), Tom Robinson (Brock Peters) and Mayella Ewell (Collin Wilcox ). The film was directed by Robert Mulligan and produced by Alan J. Pakula.

Tickets are $22 and $20 for members.
