The 24th annual Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) – taking place over Columbus Day weekend – will screen an impressive 68 features and 58 shorts representing a total of 32 countries across the globe.
“Over Columbus Day Weekend in a spectacular setting, we offer five full days of films for our impassioned audience, including dozens of premieres as well as the breakout hits and award winners from the Sundance, Berlin, Cannes, and Toronto Film Festivals,” shared HIFF Artistic Director David Nugent.
Many of this year’s Spotlight Films, as well as Open Night Films (Jeff Nichols’ Loving and Katherine Dieckmann’s Strange Weather), Closing Night Film (Ewan McGregor’s American Pastoral) and Centerpiece Films (Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester by the Sea and Mike Mills’ 20th Century Women), are already earning awards-season buzz.

“From the dazzling choreography of La La Land, the quiet beauty of Moonlight, to the belly laughs of Toni Erdmann, our audiences will see the films that are sure to be counted amongst the most celebrated films of the year,” Nugent noted about the 2016 Spotlight Films. “Additionally this year, we’re thrilled to present a Focus on Norwegian Cinema, highlighting one of the most dynamic regions of film production in the world.”
This year’s Spotlight Films, presented by Fresh Direct, feature several first viewings, including the U.S. premiere of Burn Your Maps and Lion and the East Coast debuts of Bleed for This, Christine, La La Land, and Una. Julieta, Moonlight, The Ticket and Wakefield are also HIFF Spotlight Films.
Overall, the 2016 HIFF will include eight world premieres, nine North American debuts, 20 U.S. launches, 20 East Coast premieres and 23 New York debuts.

For the first time ever, the Festival has partnered with the Norwegian Consulate General and the Norwegian Film Institute to shine a spotlight on films with a Norwegian tie. “Focus on Norwegian Film” will showcase screenings of All the Beauty, Late Summer, Magnus and It’s Alright.
And, once again, the Festival will support local filmmakers and projects that take a look at the East End’s exceptional scenery and significant concerns that Long Island communities face as part of “Views From Long Island,” which will include an advanced screening of A&E’s new documentary series, The Killing Season, on Sunday, October 9th. The eight-episode show follows Joshua Zeman and Rachel Mills as the duo examines the deaths of ten sex workers who were found on Gilgo Beach, Long Island. The Killing Season launches on A+E on November 5th. “Views From Long Island” will also highlight God Knows Where I Am, Legs: A Big Issue in a Small Town, Black Swell, and Prophet of Plas-teek.
The 24th annual Hamptons International Film Festival will take place Thursday, October 6th through Monday, October 10th. Founder Passes and ticket packages are currently available for purchase.
