The Montauk Chamber of Commerce will host the 35th Annual Fall Festival in October, but this year’s weekend long event might be missing a beloved mainstay. While the Festival will definitely feature a Clam Chowder Contest, music, Long Island beers and wine, Octoberfest foods, and a Farmers Market, the complimentary carousel rides are in jeopardy due to lack of funding. For the last 10 years the carousel has been a source of smiles for all ages and Legislator Jay Schneiderman had helped secure a yearly grant of $5,000 from Suffolk County that helped offset the carousel’s $7,000 rental cost, but the capital is no longer available.
“It would be a shame to lose the Carousel as part of the Fall Festival, especially in our 35th year,” noted Laraine Creegan, Executive Director of the Montauk Chamber of Commerce. “It provides so much fun for the children as they can ride it over and over free.”

The Montauk Chamber of Commerce is looking to the community to ensure that the popular attraction is available to 2016 fairgoers. The Chamber is offering fourteen $500 sponsorship opportunities, which will assist with the rental cost and allow the Chamber to offer the free rides. Sponsors would have a company banner set on the gates surrounding the carousel, receive ten individual one day inflatable ride bands that could be used on Saturday or Sunday (a $200 value), and have their company name and logo prominently displayed in all marketing and publicity materials, as well as on the Chamber website event page.
