Music For Montauk Returns With Its 2016 Week-Long Summer Series

Music for Montauk (M4M), a community run non-profit, will make its return this summer from Tuesday, August 16th to Monday, August 22nd to put a fresh new spin on classical music.

“There’s a fantastic diversity of music and musicians – players from the Met Orchestra, musicians who tour with Adele, an amazing cuban dance band, iconic American masterpieces and original songs inspired by Shakespeare,” shared Miloš Repicky, M4M’s co-artistic director.

M4M’s Summer Series will feature five concerts that will take place over the course of the week, all showcasing renowned classical musicians such as Adda Kridler, Annaliesa Place, Jessica Meyer, Diego Garcia and Fred Zlotkin.

The performances will debut on Tuesday, August 16th with Funky Guajiro at Solé East at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 and the evening will feature music, Cuban drinks and dancing. “These musicians are honored to have shared the international stage with renowned bands such as Los Van Van, Buena Vista Social Club, y El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico,” explained Lilah Gosman, M4M’s co-artistic director. “A refreshing break from the loud, deliberately complex modern trends in Latin dance music, Funky Guajiro offers a full serving of passion, percussion and pleasure every time they hit the stage.”

Next up is Shakespeare at Fort Pond on Wednesday, August 16th. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., Harp, String Quartet, and Vocals and Narration will perform Shakespeare inspired music. M4M’s violist Additionally, Jessica Meyer will debut her newest composition. The event is free and open to the public. “Shakespeare is timeless, so we’ve paired the old and new… we have 400 year old songs from Shakespeare’s contemporaries, our own ensemble playing Rufus Wainwright’s beautiful sonnet settings and we are premiering two searing new works by our violist, Jessica Meyer,” noted Repicky.

On Thursday, August 18th, The Four Elements Summer Benefit will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at a private residence. Guests will enjoy live entertainment and refreshments, prepared by a private chef and sommelier who will provide the perfect summer pairings. Tickets start at $150.

The Rodeo Concert will take place on Saturday, August 20th, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Third House at the Montauk County Park. Appalachian Spring Suite by Aaron Copland’s 13 person chamber orchestra will be performed. Music by Copland’s Rodeo and Grieg’s Holberg Suite will also be performed. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic. The event is free and open to the public. “We found the acoustics in our performance space at Third House to be fantastic,” added Gosman. “It’s an incredible spot – people bring lawn chairs, blankets, drinks and picnics, kids dancing, all to share and enjoy amazing music played by world class musicians. That’s what summer’s all about!”

To close out the series, join the Schubert String Quartet as they perform on Monday, August 22nd at the Third House at the Montauk County Park beginning at 6:30 p.m. The evening will highlight Franz Schubert’s String Quartet in C and include a guest performance by cellist and Montauk Chamber Music Society co-founder, Fred Zlotkin. The event is free and open to the public.
