The 126th U.S. Open returns to the historic Shinnecock Hills Golf Club from June 18–21, 2026, bringing the world’s top golfers to one of the sport’s most revered golf courses. On Friday, June 12th, the U.S. Open Championship Trophy arrived at the new Shinnecock Hills Station on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). President of the Long Island Rail Road Robert Free accompanied the trophy aboard the LIRR and was welcomed by USGA Senior Director Eric Steimer at the station.
“It is amazing that we are here, that we are just a few short days away from the U.S. Open, just welcomed our first train into the Long Island Rail Road’s Shinnecock Hills Station. How about a round of applause for our friends at the LIRR! We are extremely excited to be back here at Shinnecock Hills to host the 126th U.S. Open Championship, the sixth time in which Shinnecock Hills has hosted this championship, and, really, the only club that has hosted it in three centuries now,” said USGA Senior Director Eric Steimer.

“It is a pleasure to be here this morning as we get ready for one of the biggest golf events in the country,” said President of the Long Island Rail Road Robert Free.
“Part of what makes this championship great at Shinnecock Hills is our partnership with the MTA and the LIRR, what we were able to pull off right behind me, a temporary train station known as the Shinnecock Hills Station. This station, in 2018, we saw north of 77,000 people take the train to the championship, and we are projecting similar numbers here again in 2026,” said USGA Senior Director Eric Steimer.

Following the press conference, the trophy traveled over County Road 39 on the newly constructed pedestrian bridge and visited the U.S. Open’s 34,000-square-foot Merchandise Pavilion.
