This morning I had something that instantly transported me back to my childhood, a back egg and cheese sandwich from Sean’s Place in Southampton.
You know the kind of breakfast I’m talking about. Nothing fancy. Just a perfectly made egg sandwich that somehow tastes exactly the way you remember it from years ago. One bite and suddenly you’re a kid again, heading to the beach, sitting in the backseat of the car, or grabbing breakfast before a summer adventure.
Sean’s Place has been one of those beloved local institutions for years, and after this morning’s visit, it’s easy to understand why. Before I even walked inside, there was a line stretching out the door. In the Hamptons, where new restaurants seem to pop up every season, that kind of loyalty says everything.
Inside, there was an energy that felt refreshingly old-school. No gimmicks. No trends. Just people waiting patiently for their favorite breakfast sandwich and catching up with neighbors. It’s the kind of place that reminds you that some things don’t need to change.
And then there’s Sean himself.
While the line kept moving, Sean was in the back cooking away, doing what he’s been doing for years. If you’ve ever met him, you know he’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever come across. There’s a warmth to the place that comes directly from him. He treats customers like friends and somehow manages to make everyone feel like a regular.
The sandwich was exactly what I hoped it would be and was absolutely delicious. Sometimes the best meals aren’t the most elaborate ones. They’re the ones that are just done the right way but the right guy.
In a town filled with incredible restaurants and trendy spots, Sean’s Place remains something special.
