While many may have a perceived notion about the Hamptons, the things that matter most to photographer and writer Dawn Watson are the area’s idyllic beauty and strong sense of community. Her adoration for the East End can be seen in “Love and the Land (and Sea),” Watson’s one-woman exhibit that’s currently on display at the Montauk Library.
“I love the Hamptons and am proud to call the East End home,” explained Watson, who has called the area home for over a decade. “The things that matter most here to me, and in life, aren’t those that can be bought and sold but rather the beauty of nature and of the people with whom we choose to share our time.”
The Sag Harbor resident has spent endless time seeking out the unforgettable landmarks of both the South Fork and the North Fork, and throughout the years has managed to stop time by capturing some of her favorite spots and moments. From the excitement that the first bud of the spring season brings to the unparalleled delight of having the beach all to yourself on a beautiful day, the photographic celebration shows a side of the East End that numerous are familiar with and treasure. The exhibit at the Montauk Library features distinguishable local scenery, like the Montauk Lighthouse, local vineyards, and the scattering of East End windmills, as well as an homage to our waterscapes with snapshots of the area’s serene beaches and shores, and also views of the sea that were taken as Watson traveled by ferry around the island.

Watson often pays tribute to the East End through her pieces, which have been showcased in group exhibits at Guild Hall in East Hampton, Photographers East at Ashawagh Hall in Springs, and in private collections. The award-winning journalist and photographer is the author of www.hamptonspartygirl.com and regularly contributes to several East End publications. She is also on the board of the Southampton Cultural Center and is a committee member of the East Hampton Library’s Author’s Night benefit.
“Love of the Land (and Sea)” will be on view at the Montauk Library through Saturday, April 30th. A reception will be held on Sunday, April 17th, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
