The Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) will ring in 2016 a little early during its annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop, one of the longest-running CMEE happenings. The family-friendly festivity is geared towards those who may not be able to stay up and watch the Times Square Ball drop live. The Museum expects more than 500 guests to attend the celebrations, which have expanded to include a morning and afternoon party.
“The New Year’s Eve Ball Drop has grown to become one of CMEE’s most popular community events,” said Steve Long, the Museum’s President. “Last year felt a little too much like Midtown Manhattan for some, so, this year, we decided offer two ball drops so no one feels squeezed out of the celebration.”
Before the “early bird” countdown to the New Year begins, little ones will make their own noisemakers, horns and shakers, to ensure that the start of 2016 is a memorable, confetti-filled occasion.
“Planning these big events is what makes my job so much fun. I love transforming CMEE’s Main Street into Times Square for the day,” noted Doug Borge, the Museum’s Visitor Experience Coordinator. “I’ve already started making the confetti and testing the confetti cannons!”

Sessions will take place on Thursday, December 31st from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (with the ball drop at 11 a.m.), and from 1 to 3 p.m. (with the ball drop at 2 p.m.).
Tickets are free for members and $10 for non-members. Pre-registration is required.
