Benedict Cumberbatch Brings William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” To The Big Screen

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch will grace the big screen at Guild Hall during a National Theatre Live presented screening of “Hamlet” on Saturday, October 24th at 7 p.m.

Cumberbatch, whose resume includes BBC’s Sherlock, The Imitation Game, 12 Years a Slave, and Frankenstein at the National Theatre, will star as Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, in Shakespeare’s great tragedy which follows a man who is forced to avenge his father’s death after learning that it was his Uncle Claudius who murdered his beloved father so Claudius could take over the throne.

The Academy Award nominee’s performance has earned rave reviews. “This is a Hamlet for a world on the edge,” noted Matt Trueman of Variety. “A warning from history, and a plea for new ideas from a new generation.”

The National Theatre production is directed by Lyndsey Turner and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions.

“Cumberbatch is a blazing five-star Hamlet,” said Dominic Cavendish of the Daily Telegraph.

Tickets are $18 for non-members and $16 members.
