Plein Air Peconic, a fellowship of artists dedicated to the tradition of working on site to create images of Long Island’s East End, is commemorating its 10th anniversary partnership with Peconic Land Trust, a nonprofit dedicated to the protection of Long Island’s working farms, natural lands, and heritage, during Plein Air Peconic X at Ashawagh Hall.
“Art can be a powerful advocacy tool for conservation,” noted Rebecca A. Chapman, Vice President, Peconic Land Trust. “The power of walking into a room and seeing a landscape that is familiar – or one that is familiar but gone – cannot be underestimated.”

Plein Air Peconic X, a pop-up Landscape Art Exhibition and Sale, will shine a light on the astonishing ability that art has to connect viewers to its environment.
“Through landscape art – paintings and photography – we are connecting people with the environment around them. People long for vistas lost and well as celebrate familiar views,” explained Chapman. “When witnessing both the lost as well as the protected, the viewer gains a deeper appreciation for the role conservation plays in their own community. The visceral connection often creates lifelong conservationists.”
The Columbus Day weekend event will feature the exhibit, which showcases works featuring farms, beaches and wetlands of Eastern Long Island, and a screening of Growing Farmers, a 16-minute award winning documentary by local director Michael Halsband and producers Peconic Land Trust and Hillary Leff. Featured artists include painters Casey Chalem Anderson, Susan D’Alessio, Terry Elkins, Michelle Margit, Gordon Matheson, Joanne Rosko, Eileen Dawn Skretch, and photographers Tom Steele, Kathryn Szoka and Ellen Watson.

Plein Air Peconic X will be on display Saturday, October 10th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, October 11th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Monday, October 12th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. An opening reception will be held on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. A Meet the Artists Coffee will take place on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
All of the artwork is for sale and the artists will donate a portion of sales to the Peconic Land Trust.
