“I’ve always been interested in art history and particularly came to admire the work of Edward Hopper, Eugene Atget, and Diane Arbus,” shared artist Gary Beeber, who is featured in a solo show, Beauty is in the Details, at Dodd’s & Eder Home in Sag Harbor. “Aside from taking pictures, I have also produced and directed award-winning documentary films about people living on the fringe of society.”

The Water Mill-based artist found his passion for the craft while using photographs as a source material for his photo-realistic watercolor paintings. Beeber has captured subjects as diverse as architectural details in Italy, the Dachau Concentration Camp, the ritual sacrifice of sheep in Morocco, graveyards in New Orleans and transgender/nightlife personalities in New York City. Beauty is in the Details will focus on the artist’s architectural works.
“Gary Beeber has traveled the world photographing interesting buildings and capturing details from an artistic perspective that may not otherwise be readily seen,” noted Beauty is in the Details curator Lisa Freedman of Zeiger Arts. “This exquisite collection of photographs provides an interesting perspective on the similarities and differences in design details, patterns and colors from varying cultures and often bygone eras.”
From 2011 to 2014, Beeber used his artistic skills on a different genre of art, Gotham Burlesque, an off-Broadway burlesque/variety show that he produced. According to Time Out New York, the production was one of the top nightlife shows in New York City. After his time on off-Broadway, he once again found photography. “I believe that each phase organically lead to the next,” explained Beeber. “I feel that producing the films and the show made me look at photography differently. It made the work more theatrical and cinematic.”
Beeber’s works have been showcased in solo and group shows, juried exhibitions, major International art fairs, and corporate collections throughout the United States.
