On Saturday, August 1st, Island Moving Co. (IMC) will bring a modified Open for Dancing model to Southampton, in honor of the Village’s 375th anniversary celebration. The site specific dance festival showcases community contributors.
“I am honored to be a part of such an august group,” noted Susan Ruf, Open for Dancing participant. “I had a blast… It was wonderful to see such a creative, inspiring process unfold, and I hope to experience more in the future.”
Since the festival’s start in 2002, IMC has presented Open for Dancing in Newport, in South County, RI and in Providence, RI. For the Hamptons event, festivalgoers worked with IMC Artistic Director Miki Ohlsen to choreograph an original dance that will travel through the center of Southampton, from Agawam Park to the Southampton Arts Center.

“It was another lovely day spent with dancers,” shared Lisa Palmer, Open for Dancing participant. “What can I say except my body is sparkling with energy it hasn’t seen in months. This entire festival will have a lasting impact on me.”
Performances will take place on Saturday, August 1st at 3 p.m. and again at 5 p.m. Both are free and open to the public.
