East End resident and acclaimed artist and children’s book author Joyce Raimondo has teamed up with local schools to motivate students to trade their “bullying” behavior for constructive expression through art. The author of the Art Explorer series and The Museum of Modern Art’s Art Safari book has been traveling throughout Long Island to collaborate with students and create Unity Murals.
“I wanted to create a project that would give young people a positive and creative forum for teamwork rather than focus on all the negative aspects of bullying,” noted Raimondo, a resident of East Hampton.
During May, Raimondo is joining forces with students from John M. Marshall Elementary School’s after school program, Project Most, to paint a school mural representing teamwork and positive character traits.

So far, thousands of students have participated in the project, including Aqueboque Elementary School, Riverhead High School, Vanderbilt Elementary School, Paumonak Elementary School, Signal Hill Elementary School, Otsego Elementary School, Lawrence Middle School, and Bridgehampton School.
