After two tense weeks of competing, the Westhampton Beach H.S. Robotics Team has scored a coveted spot at the First Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri. The talented teens came in 2nd place in the Finals at NYC Regionals, held at the Jacob Javtiz Center and also won the Imagery Award (which commemorates magnetism in engineering and exceptional visual aesthetic integration of machine and team appearance). They clinched their spot at the World Championship during the SBPLI Long Island Regionals at Hofstra University, where they placed first and took home the Xerox Creativity Award (which honors creativity in design, use of component, or strategy of play).
“These 29 students and their mentors put in countless hours over the last 3 months, building their robot from the ground up, fundraising, and truly working as a team,” said Sharon Dyer, Co-advisor of the Westhampton Beach High School Robotics Team 3171. “The lessons that they’re learning about leadership, teamwork, engineering, and programming are invaluable and are inspiring them to dream big dreams and achieve great things.”

Before they can compete against teams from all over the US and the world during the Championship on Wednesday, April 22nd through Saturday, April 25th, they must raise $20,000 over the next few weeks in support of trip expenses.
