Hailing from Portland, Maine, Bob Marley, not to be confused with the deceased reggae singer, has made the rounds for some time now and has established himself as a top-notch comedian. His successes led to a full circuit on the late night shows including segments on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and Craig Kilborn,” and he appeared most recently on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”
“The worst part about doing TV and late night shows is your relatives. They’re always on you. ‘Bob, when are you going to do Jimmy Fallon?’ Then, I do it. ‘Bob, when will you do HBO?’ I keep asking them questions like, ‘I’ve done TV, what the hell have you guys done?'”
Marley is a featured comedian in Bay Street Theater’s Summer 2014 Comedy Club. His show will take place on Monday, August 11, 2014. “My wife and I have never been to the Hamptons before, and she, I think even more so than I am, is ecstatic. You know, she’s picturing red carpets and celebrities. If we don’t see Billy Joel, I don’t know what she’s going to do.”
Marley can claim ties to Maine, Boston, and Los Angeles, from where he has been
based with his wife and three kids for 11 years. “The majority of my humor is observational humor. I come from a big Irish Catholic family so I have a lot of people who I can use for content. Just the other day my cousin, who has a lazy eye, ran into a screen doorā¦. Three times in one day.”

“My mother makes for great content. When I did Jimmy Fallon, I brought my mother with me, I still don’t know why. It was like ‘Driving Miss Daisy.’ For some reason, she sat in the back the whole way, and she started to make this slurping sound. I asked her what the hell she was doing, and she told me she had to do it or else her areolas would hurt. Little did she know those were her nipples.”
Marley is extremely down to earth and relatable, especially to those whose mothers have an unnatural hold on their middle aged sons. “The other day I took my mother to her colonoscopy appointment, because God knows she couldn’t do it alone. Well, the doctor asked me if I wanted to stay, so I got in my car and drove 100 miles an hour in the opposite direction,” said Marley jokingly.
Aside from stand up routines, Marley currently has a weekly radio segment, which is broadcasted mostly on New England radio stations, called “The World According to Bob,” for which he won this year’s Sirius/XM “Super Bowl of Comedy.” He is credited for appearances on one hundred television shows including VH-1’s “Super Secret Movie Rules,” Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” “USO Comedy Tour” and most recently “Comedy Central Presents Bob Marley,” his thirty minute special.
Marley’s silver screen debut came in the form of the cult favorite movies “Boondock Saints” and its sequel “All Saints Day,” which was released in the fall of 2009. The two films featured prominent actors like Willem Dafoe, Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, Billy Connolly, Julie Benz, Judd Nelson, and Peter Fonda.
“It was really an honor to work with Willem Dafoe, in particular. He is a really great guy. I was filming when my father was still alive, and he was a big Irish guy,” Marley told Hamptons.com. “One day, he wandered onto set during a scene that was getting pretty heated, and they had to cut it. I heard someone say on a walkie talkie that they had some people (my dad) walk into the shot. Later that day my dad told me, ‘guess who we are going to dinner with tonight? William Dafoe.’ I told him, ‘Dad it’s Willem Dafoe, and how did you manage that?'”
“At Bay Street, I’ll probably talk about my wife, kids and family. It’ll be funny crazy stories. I usually keep my shows PG-13. I used to be a bit more vulgar, but it wasn’t really working for me. I recorded a show I did and listened to it on the way home. It just sounded lazy. Dropping an F-bomb really only has the effect you want it to if you’re super angry on stage or you know, Lewis Black.”
