One of the thousands of reasons to come to the Hamptons in the summer is to enjoy your favorite company at the best restaurants on this very long island. Here’s our favorite ten in Westhampton Beach and Hampton Bays.
Cowfish (258 E. Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays, 631-594-3868, www.cowfishrestaurant.com) is set on the Shinnecock Canal. With delicious food and wine, people can sit inside and outside or just grab drinks at the enormous bar right on the water.
Regarded as the best swordfish in the Hamptons, Starr Boggs (6 Parlato Drive, Westhampton Beach, 631-288-3500, www.starrboggsrestaurant.com) is housed in a converted historic home with a screened porch, private club room, dining room, beautiful mahogany bar, and covered alfresco dining area.
Home to the best sunsets in the Hamptons, Oaklands (365 Dune Road, Hampton Bays, 631-728-6900, www.oaklandsrestaurant.net) resides on narrow Dune Road smack between Shinnecock Bay and the Atlantic Ocean with amazing views of the Shinnecock Inlet. Families can sit on the tremendous wrap-around deck and watch as the fishing boats return to the marina after a long days work.
The Patio (54 Main Street, Westhampton Beach, 631-288-0100, www.thepatiowhb.com) has incredible ambiance and even more incredible food. Candlelit indoor tables surround a center outdoor patio, which is ideal on a starry, summer night.
For some of the best seafood out here, run to Buoy One (62 Montauk Highway, Westhampton, 631-998-3808, www.buoyone.com) and satisfy your cravings for delectable seafood.
If you’re looking to indulge in delicious and traditional Mexican food, head over to Blue Cactus (122 East Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays, 631-728-0000, www.agavesbluecactus.com). This adorable little place is the Hamptons’ own ‘Little Mexico,’ but it is on the smaller side so try to call ahead.
You can never go wrong with Italian food. Drop by Edgewater (295 East Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays, 631-723-2323, www.edgewaterrestaurant.com) for delicious garlic bread and pasta. If you’re heading east on a Friday evening, Edgewater’s pizzas make for fabulous takeout.
For a beautiful sunset overlooking the water make the scenic drive down Dune Road to Dockers Waterside (94 Dune Road, East Quogue, 631-653-0653, www.dockerswaterside.com). With plenty of outdoor seating and two incredible outdoor living rooms, Dockers Waterside makes our top ten restaurants this summer.
If you’re in the mood to channel your inner islander, head to Rumba (43 Canoe Place Road, Hampton Bays, 631-594-3544, www.rumbarumbar.com) for rum concoctions, specialty margaritas, and flat out incredible food.
Calling all carnivores, try One North Steakhouse (322 W. Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays, 631-594-3419, www.1northsteakhouse.com) at its new location for succulent steaks and more.
