“The Whisper” Gets Ready To Burst At Guild Hall In East Hampton

Last year Eugene Pack brought another one of his plays, “Columbus and Amsterdam,” to the Hamptons for a staged reading benefiting The Felix Organization for foster kids at Guild Hall in East Hampton. This year, the Emmy Award winner is bringing a brand new comedy with a sex mentalist for one night only.

Matthew Broderick and Jane Krakowski, along with Pamela Adlon, Jennifer Tilly and Dayle Reyfel will perform in a staged reading of Pack’s new comedy “The Whisper” on August 22nd at 8 p.m. at Guild Hall in East Hampton. Pack says the audience can expect a shockingly hilarious night out on the town.

The fictional tale details a group of women taking a girls-weekend trip to Las Vegas and what happens when they encounter Broderick, a sex mentalist, who can bring women to the most wonderful sense of euphoria.

“If I was forced to say anything, it’s not like ‘Bridesmaids’ but it’s got that group female comedy ‘Bridesmaids’ feel,” Pack said.

The inspiration stirs from different people’s perspectives on sex and love and just giving an audience a good night out on the town. This is not the kind of dramatic play that will take audience members on an emotional roller coaster.

“The Whisper” has been performed in staged readings all over the country, mostly with different casts. Sherri Shepherd, Jennifer Coolidge and Molly Shannon have all, at one-time-or-another, been apart of the rotating cast. Eventually, Pack would like to see the script turn into an actual, produced show.

“It’s like writing a song and having the greatest people sing it when I get these incredible people to read my words,” Pack said.

When asked to describe the show in three words, Pack called it “sexy, hilarious and unforgettable.”
