INTERVIEW: Designer Ramy Brook Sharp Talks The Hamptons, Her Eponymous Clothing Line And More

Ramy Brook’s first pop-up store in the Hamptons made its debut over Memorial Day weekend.

The Southampton store, which boasts cheery “Ramy Brook orange” decor elements, features the NYC-based apparel brand’s gorgeous womenswear from the Ramy Brook SS’21 collections, as well as Ramy Brook’s newly launched swimwear and coverups, and the brand’s Crazy Strong candle line.

We caught up with designer Ramy Brook Sharp about her eponymous clothing line, the new outpost, and much more.

Tell us about your new Southampton store. Will there be any exclusive merch there?

RBS: Our pop-up store officially opened Memorial Day weekend. It’s decorated with our signature orange and gold. We have Ramy Brook exclusives that we carry at both the stores and web. We designed a fun, bright, reusable tote that is exclusive to the Southampton store as well as a beach bag that’s available as a gift to the first 150 customers who spend $750 or more.

What drew you to Southampton?

RBS: I’ve been coming to the Hamptons for over 20 years and Southampton has always been a destination for cool new stores. A lot of shoppers head to town after leaving the beach. Southampton is centrally located, and is convenient to drive to from Westhampton and Bridgehampton.

What was the inspiration behind the SS’21 collections?

RBS: Our SS’21 collection is about being happy. We focused on bright colors and silhouettes to make our customer feel great inside and out. The clothing is designed to take you from day to night, perfect for the Hamptons lifestyle. We focused on designing a collection for “going out” whether it’s a beach party, luncheon or nighttime fun, our clothing can take you there.

Now that summer soirees are back, what are a few standout pieces every woman should invest in this season?

RBS: I’m a big fan of maxi dresses (Printed Theodora is a favorite) and wearing all white in the summer. I also like to add a touch of turquoise, it reminds me of the warmth and fun of the Caribbean.

What is your go-to outfit when in the Hamptons?

RBS: Our new ombré cut-off denim shorts, white t-shirt and the Paris Mini Dress. That’s all I need to get by!

What does your ideal day/evening in the Hamptons look like?

RBS: I start my day working out, either spinning or a dance class. After, I love grabbing coffee and breakfast at the Golden Pear. If I have somewhere to go I’ll run to Valery Joseph for a quick blow dry. I’ll then head to the store in Southampton, I love meeting the ladies who come in. When I’m not working, I’ll try to sneak in a golf lesson. I’m terrible but hoping to get better this summer. Then a fun dinner with family and/or friends.

After the SS’21 collection, what’s next for Ramy Brook?

RBS: Our Fall delivery starts in August, which has a different vibe than summer but is equally fabulous in its own way. We are currently busy designing holiday and resort and looking forward to dressing women for all the great times ahead.
