Mark “King Solomon” Evans, the former owner of Manhattan’s Red Strype, Les Amis, Les Deux Lapins, A Café and Ivo & LuLu and South Beach’s Bar Bù, is bringing a dose of the Caribbean to the Hamptons.
“King Solomon” has spent summers in Sag Harbor for the past 30 years, so when a friend purchased The Hamlet Green Shopping Plaza in Hampton Bays, it was a no-brainer for the restaurateur to open an East End restaurant. Miss Shanty held its grand opening at The Hamlet Green on May 29.
The eatery will highlight traditional island fare, which brings together authentic West Indian and French Caribbean dishes with a nouveau twist. Offerings will include a variety of Jamaican Patties, including Spicy Beef, Jerk or Curry Chicken, and Veggie Pie, Coco Bread, Jerk Wings with Mango Chutney, Ackee ‘N’ Saltfish with Soursop Juice, Nos Crêpes Caraïbes, Smoked Salmon in a Pineapple Puree, Big Shrimp Sautéed in a Coconut-Lime Curry, Half-a-Hen in a Jerk Spice & Guava Sauce, and Half-Baked Jerk Duck in a Mango Marinade. Sweeties & Sides will feature Bun & Cheese, Bulla Cake with Guava Jelly, Gizzada Tart, Sweet Plantain, Hardo Bread, Chronic Tonic, Baba Roots, and Irish Moss.
The island vibe will also be brought to life through the sounds of classic reggae, ska, souk, soca and calypso music and decor.
In addition to Miss Shanty, the newly refurbished The Hamlet Green Shopping Plaza will feature retail shops such as The Flamingo Boutique and Hampton Thrift, as well as long time staples like Good Ground Yoga and Sil Spa.
Miss Shanty is located at 105 West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays. For more information, visit missshanty.com.
