Rasean Devante Johnson’s Shutdown, Crisis, Restart is the first in a series of four Bay Street Theater’s “Live/Emmersive/Visual Wonder/Wall Shows. It is a new form of interactive technology presentation aimed at provoking deep thoughts about the Covid 19 nightmare the world experienced.
With a small audience of 20 safely spaced the show is presented in what is usually the Bay Street Theater courtyard. Augmented by a zestful summer breeze the projected images flash sometimes emulating looking out a subway window of an elevated line perhaps the 7 train in Queens.
You can’t help but again feel the pain we all collectively experienced during of the worst of the Covid times , knowing that one mishap, one slip of a safety protocol could be deadly.
A live performer, Jade Diskin, emerges to transform the uncertainty and agony the world felt into individual dances moves perhaps choreographed to emphasize uncertainty, fear and eventually a move to return to a restart.
There are many thought provoking images that Mr.Johnson’s fluid vision brings to the WonderWall. You have to see it, hear his choice of sounds and view his selections of video on how the world shutdown, was in crisis and now has restarted. Seeing this show at Bay Street is part of the safe restart. These shows runs until July 31.
