Black And Sparrow Making Songwriters Share Debut – In Support Of Animal Rescue Fund Of The Hamptons

The 6th Annual Songwriters Share Concert Series will reach its midway point on Friday, March 6. Headliner Black and Sparrow will take the stage at the Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse in Bridgehampton at 7:30 p.m. – in support of Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF).

“We are happy to welcome Black and Sparrow this year to the 6th annual Songwriters Share Concert Series,” Nancy Remkus, Songwriters Share Founder, shared. “When we announced their upcoming performance at the last concert there was an audible, ‘Yay’ heard throughout the audience.”

While new to the series, the New York-based acoustic duo consisting of Klyph Black and John Sparrow have been sharing the stage together for many years. They have opened shows for The Subdudes, The New Riders of the Purple Sage, Mick Taylor, Taj Mahal, Hot Tuna and several other notable acts.

“Our concert series offers the opportunity to listen to every word the musicians sing – as well as hear what has inspired them to write their songs,” Remkus noted. “It’s a great evening of music and community-like sharing an intimate night of music with friends and capping it off with some wine and cheese and a strong sense of community.”

Black has penned songs that have been featured on the TV shows Felicity and Alias, and Sparrow scored the movies Schmucks and Marie, which he also acted in. The band’s CDs Friend And Partner and Second Time Around are available on cdbaby.com and itunes.com.

“Very accomplished musicians and songwriters Black and Sparrow will bring a fresh, new sound to our series and we are very excited to have them perform,” Remkus said.

As this is the series that gives back to the community, Black and Sparrow has selected Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons to champion. “This is also the first group that has decided to share the proceeds with ARF – which is such a wonderful organization helping so many cats and dogs find homes. We are delighted to have ARF represented in the series this year,” Remkus said.

Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded in 1974. Since it was established, it has saved over 29,000 cats and dogs. Its successful ARF Op-Cat program has spayed/neutered more than 26,000 cats. The “no kill” Adoption Center’s mission is to “actively rescues cats and dogs, provides quality care and offers sanctuary until loving homes can be found.” Its mobile adoption team allows the organization to assist animals across the region. In addition to the ARF Adoption Center (124 Daniels Hole Road, East Hampton), the organization also has the ARF Thrift & Treasure Shop (17 Poxabogue Lane, Sagaponack), with all sales proceeds supporting the Center.

“It should be a great evening and we encourage the community to come out in support of ARF and to, of course, hear some great music by Black and Sparrow,” Jamie Berger, Director of Marketing & Communications, shared. “We are excited to be a part of the Songwriters Share Concert series and are touched that Black and Sparrow want to perform for our cause.”

General admission to the Songwriters Share Concert Series is $20 and $15 for seniors and students. Following the concert there will be a complimentary wine and cheese reception.

After Black and Sparrow, concerts will feature Hopefully Forgiven playing for Soldier Ride on Friday, April 3, Caroline Doctorow and Gene Casey playing for Turtle Rescue of the Hamptons on Friday, May 1 and Fred Raimando playing for The Retreat on Friday, June 5.

“We hope that many will come out to hear their debut performance in our series – and I hope people will support this series that continues to give back to the community,” Remkus concluded.
