HarborFrost To Feature Frosty Plunge, Fire Dancers, Oyster Crawl, And More Winter Fun Across Sag Harbor

A beloved winter tradition will takeover Sag Harbor on Saturday, February 29.

“HarborFrost is a great annual tradition in Sag Harbor that creates a fun atmosphere when there’s not too much else going on in the Hamptons,” Lisa Field, Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce President, relayed. “The Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce started the event to bring the community ‘out into the cold’ and let everyone know that Sag Harbor is ‘open for business.'”

The ode to two extreme elements – fire and ice – will feature many HarborFrost favorites – like live ice carving demonstrations, the Frosty Plunge, ice sculptures along Main Street, as well as some new additions that are bound to be a hit. Happenings will take place throughout the Village.

“It has grown into an exciting festival with unique attractions such as Fire Dancers and Ice Carvers,” Field noted. “This year, due to the construction on Long Wharf, fireworks are not possible…however, we will have an exciting new finale in a drone laser light brought to us by Baron’s Cove.”

The festivities will launch at 10 a.m. with a Hike for HarborFrost at Mashashimuet Park (Main Street and Jermain Avenue). Then, indulge in the tastes of Sag Harbor during a Culinary Stroll at 11:30 a.m. Sign up will take place at Il Capuccino (30 Madison Street). Children can add a little sparkle to their day with a complimentary glitter tattoo at The Wharf Shop (69 Main Street) from 12 to 3 p.m. Faherty (56 Main Street) will host live music from 12 to 6 p.m. Foodies will also want to save room for the Oyster Crawl, which will be held from 12 to 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at K Pasa (2 Main Street).

Those that plan on braving the cold to partake in the Frosty Plunge should register at the Windmill starting at 1 p.m., while the actual action will get underway at 2 p.m. If you want to escape the cold for a bit, John Jermain Library (201 Main Street) will present a hot chocolate station, green screen photo booth, and other fun activities from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be free face painting at White’s Apocathary (20 Main Street) from 1 to 4 p.m. Baron’s Cove (31 West Water Street) will welcome special guest and oyster-shucking champion, Paddy McMurray, for some Shuck Therapy from 1 to 6 p.m. Attendees will watch in awe as McMurray shows off his expertise. There will also be raw bar favorites and chowder, and live music from the Tom&Lisa Band.

“This is my third year joining Baron’s Cove for its ‘Shuck Therapy’ HarborFrost event,” Patrick McMurray, World & Guinness Champion Oyster Shucker, shared. “I attend community events like this all over the country and look forward to this harbor-side celebration every winter. Long Island has some really delicious local oysters and Baron’s Cove is a beautiful location to showcase the seafood.”

More icy adventures will take place at 2 p.m., when a live ice carving demonstration takes place at Steinbeck Park and the Breakwater Yacht Club Ice Breaker Sailing Regatta begins. Another chance to warm up will take place at the Old Whalers Church (44 Union Street) from 2 to 5 p.m. with a Soup and Supper gathering. Bottomless bowls are $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

Little ones won’t want to miss KidsFun at Dodds and Eder (11 Bridge Street) from 2 to 5 p.m. or more face painting at Stella & Ruby (144 Main Street), also from 2 to 5 p.m.

Alfredo Merat will headline at K Pasa at 2:30 p.m., which will also mark the start of eye-catching fire amusement. Keith Leaf will enchant the crowd at Steinbeck Park with spectacular fire juggling at 2:30 p.m. and again at 3:30 p.m.

There will be live music from the Second Hands at Berry and Co. (51 Division Street) at 3:30 p.m. and Ludmilla & Marcello at Buddhaberry (125 Main Street) at 4:30 p.m.

HarborFrost will heat up at 5:30 p.m. with a performance from Fiery Sensations fire dancers and the debut of the Laser Light Show will illuminate the harbor at 6 p.m.

“HarborFrost is one of our favorite community events. We always look forward to our ‘Shuck Therapy’ seafood event and have guests who return every year to celebrate,” said Mario Arakelian, General Manager of Baron’s Cove. “We’re also thrilled to have the opportunity to sponsor HarborFrost’s new drone light show over the harbor – we have one of the best seats in town for viewing!”

Finally, The HooDoo Loungers “Soul Spectacular” at Bay Street Theater (1 Bay Street) will wrap up the excitement at 8 p.m.

“We are excited to be using the new Steinbeck Park located near the bridge for most of the outdoor events,” Field added.

HarborFrost happenings are complimentary, with the exception of the Culinary Stroll ($50 per person), Oyster Crawl ($50 per person), Frosty Plunge (donation to the Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance), and HooDoo Loungers at Bay Street Theater ($30).
