Center for Therapeutic Riding of the East End (CTREE) and supporters will “gallop” through the Hamptons on Saturday, April 30th during CTREE’s 3rd Annual Giddy Up 5K. The walk/run starts and ends at Sagg Main Beach in Sagaponack, and the route will take participants through the majestic roads and lanes of Sagaponack.
CTREE’s mission is to provide therapeutic horseback riding lessons and equine assisted activities for children and adults with cognitive, emotional or physical disabilities.
“A lesson at CTREE produces immediate results,” explained Lena, parent of CTREE rider, Maren. “Maren is more engaged, alert and stronger in her core section.” Spending time at CTREE offers visitors several benefits. “Riding has not only been one of the most effective physical therapies, but has been empowering,” she added. “Rett Syndrome sidelines her from so many activities, but when she rides she beams with happiness and pride. Thank-you CTREE horses and instructors for helping Maren succeed.”
The 501c3 not-for-profit, which operates out of Wolffer Estate Stable in Sagaponack, was founded in 2008 and began with just two clients. Since its inception, it has provided over 30 riders with equine assisted activities and therapeutic riding lessons. CTREE operates 36 weeks per year and lesson volunteers donated more than 1,600 hours of service last year.
“I heard about the organization and they asked me to support their event,” explained Polo Player and Ralph Lauren model Nacho Figueras, who served as the honorary chairman at last year’s CTREE at Sebonack benefit. “I think what they do is fantastic for kids who have disabilities and it’s my pleasure to help them.”
Currently, CTREE offers therapeutic riding lessons and equine assisted activities to those with cognitive, physical or emotional disabilities, equine assisted activities to veterans through the CTREE Patriots Program, and equine assisted learning programs to local school groups, including special needs, at risk, leadership, and ESL children.
