Hamptons.com sat down with Simon Cascante, an East Hampton local who founded Montaukila. Through his love of Montauk and Tequila, Montaukila was born. Montaukila was developed from the ground up with a specific flavor profile and a laid-back yet premium aesthetic that is perfect for everyone.
Where did you get the inspiration for Montaukila?
Growing up in East Hampton, I developed a sense of home with Montauk and my summers spent on the beach. Being in the hospitality industry and seeing the rise of tequila over the past several years inspired me to bring my love of Montauk and tequila together. My background in graphic design helped bring my vision to life.
Can you explain the process of making your Tequila?
Our Partner distillery Casa Maestri takes great pride in being the small batch single origin distillery employing both traditional and modern methods in their distillation process. Our tequila is made from 100% blue weber agave and our formula is unique to our brand.
What makes Montaukila stand out from the other tequilas on the market?
In a sea of celebrity endorsed tequilas it is imperative for Montaukila to stand out as a locally owned, sustainable, lifestyle tequila brand that prides itself in experiential marketing, cool partnerships, and direct consumer interaction.
What is the difference between Blanco and Anejo?
Blanco is tequila in its purest form; it’s crystal clear, smooth, fragrant, light – perfect for margaritas and on its own. Our Anejo has been aged one year and two months in cast oak barrels. It has a robust flavor profile with vanilla and caramel notes. Perfect for sipping and on the rocks.
What is the best way to drink tequila?
My favorite way to drink tequila is either with club soda and lime or by itself. Ensuring it’s not too sweet and I can still taste the flavor of the tequila. Although a good spicy margarita always hits the spot!
Is there a mezcal in the works?
Yes. Like tequila, mezcal requires a unique process to develop. We’re working on our very own and hopefully looking to release it in 2024. Prior to our mezcal release, we will have some other specialties coming out this year so look out for those.
Are there any events Montaukila is planning for summer 2023?
Montaukila is no stranger to events – every year promises a slew of events. This year among our standard events, like the Montauk Music Festival which takes place Memorial Day weekend at the start of the summer, we’ve partnered with Whalebone Magazine and are doing several campaigns throughout the summer. We will also be hosting the Montauk Film Festival and attending the Hampton Classic. For other events make sure to watch our Instagram account!
