Daiquiris and dog biscuits were on the menu at Bideawee Ball — a two-part outdoor fundraising event that took place on Thursday, September 9th in Manhattan and on Saturday, September 18th in Water Mill (Long Island). At both events, playful pups and the people who love them helped raise funds for Bideawee’s extraordinary efforts in rescuing, caring for and placing homeless cats and dogs in forever homes. The events raised a combined total of more than $500,000. Bideawee is one of the country’s oldest and most respected animal welfare and pet adoption organizations with locations in Manhattan and Long Island.

The first outdoor fundraising event – open to humans and dogs alike – took place at City Vineyard at Pier 26 in Manhattan. The ball offered a Canine Lounge, sponsored by Pet Meds, including a treat bar where the pupsfeasted on an array of treats, courtesy of Hill’s Pet Nutrition. For the 175 humans on hand, the evening offered a cocktail reception; the opportunity to meet adoptable dogs; a raffle, which included an Hermès dog collar and matching leash, among other items; and a live donation appeal. Sponsors included, Signature Sponsor: H/3 Foundation, Everyday Heroes Matching Partner: Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Canine Lounge Sponsor: Pet Meds, Liquor Sponsor: Tito’s Handmade Vodka; and DLA Piper LLP, Chris Smith Partner matched the donations during the paddle raise at the NYC event up to 10K. Music was courtesy of DJ Bright Light Bright Light, who recently adopted his own pet from Bideawee.
The second outdoor fundraising event – open to humans and dogs alike – took place at Duck Walk Vineyards Hamptons in Water Mill (Long Island). The ball offered a Canine Lounge, sponsored by Pet Meds, including a treat bar where the pups feasted on an array of treats, courtesy of Hill’s Pet Nutrition. For the 120 humans on hand, the evening offered a cocktail hour, seated dinner, live donation appeal, and a live auction. Sponsors included, Signature Sponsor: H/3 Foundation; Everyday Heroes Matching Partner: Hill’s Pet Nutrition; Canine Lounge Sponsor: Pet Meds; Liquor Sponsor: Tito’s Handmade Vodka; Raw Bar Sponsor: Moses & Singer LLP; and Boehringer & Ingelheim.

At both events, honorees included the everyday heroes – staff and volunteers – who wouldn’t “stay at home” during the pandemic until every dog and cat in Bideawee’s care had a home too. This year, Bideawee honored their courage and dedication and its friends at Hill’s Pet Nutrition pledged to match every online donation of up to $10,000 in their honor.
The Committee was led by Bideawee Board Member and Gala Chair Brian J. Glaser, Ph.D., Director, The Google School for Leaders & Head of Talent at Google.

Leslie Granger, CAWA, President and CEO of Bideawee, said, “These Bideawee Ball events captured the spirit of our staff and volunteers, the energy of our animals, and the generosity of our supporters. Not only did we raise important funds that will go toward providing critical care for the deserving animals in our shelters, but we had the opportunity to meet the dashing dogs of our compassionate guests. We were also able to introduce some sweet pups to potential adopters. In fact, a deserving dog was adopted after meeting its forever family at the Manhattan event. I cannot thank our staff and volunteers enough for the tireless work they did throughout the pandemic. I’d like to thank all of the wonderful families who adopted or fostered a vulnerable animal in the wake of COVID-19 when the need was so great. I’d also like to extend my gratitude to everyone who helped make these events a huge success. They were “paw-sitively” perfect!”
