"The second home market has been a boon to the local economy. However, it has also had the impact of driving up prices and making housing unaffordable for many local families," Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. told us.
"There is intense demand in both the rental and sales markets, which has not abated with the start off fall," Ernie Cervi noted. "Home seekers are seeking privacy and space, and they are willing to pay the premium to get it."
"I believe you will start to see more money allocated to the schools, transportation systems, restaurants, shopping and local establishments. More people means more money into the local economy, which is always a good thing," said J.B. Andreassi, Nest Seekers International Real Estate Agent.
"The Sagaponack General Store, currently Pierre's Market, was built in 1878 for the sole purpose of a general store and post office for the hamlet of Sagaponack, once named the most exclusive zip code in the country," Susan Ratcliffe noted.
"It's impressive to see five Hamptons Zip Codes in the top 50, equaling Manhattan," Andrew Weinberger noted. The clear trend this year has been that luxury buyers are leaving cities and heading towards the ocean or mountains."
Before the advent of Covid-19 retailers were being negatively impacted by online purchasing. Major box stores such as Macy's, Sears, and Kmart closed large numbers of stores throughout the country, while JCPenney and Neiman Marcus have filed for bankruptcy.
"It has been a great time, an unforgettable experience. Leaning into the Wind offers a different angle, a different perspective, another perception on many levels," Director Thomas Riedelsheimer said about the documentary about Andy Goldsworthy.
"It's an interesting study about the interplay between architecture, setting, and landscaping. And while most gardens are obviously not at height in September, our focus is on both the home and the garden as a collective whole," Buttry told Hamptons.com.
