AIA Peconic and the Southampton Arts Center (SAC) are joining forces for the third year to celebrate Women’s History Month. On March 27th, the event will kick off with a networking social at 5:30 p.m., followed by a screening of the documentary City Dreamers at 6:30 p.m., and an engaging panel discussion at 8:00 p.m. The evening will feature local AIA architects reflecting on the film and its themes. The panel will be moderated by Julie Hatfield, President of Wright & Company Construction, is a pioneer as a female leader in one of the foremost residential construction companies in the U.S.
City Dreamers explores the changing urban environment through the lives and work of four trailblazing women architects. Phyllis Lambert, Blanche Lemco van Ginkel, Cornelia Hahn Oberlander, and Denise Scott Brown have each dedicated over 70 years to observing, thinking about, and shaping the transformations of our cities. Despite often being the only women in the room, their accomplishments in architecture, planning, and landscape architecture are nothing short of groundbreaking. They have not only influenced the landscape but also mentored and inspired generations of professionals since the 1950s.
The screening will be followed by a reflection panel led by AIA Peconic architect members. The panel will offer insights into the film and its relevance to today’s architectural landscape.
“We are truly delighted to once again partner with AIA Peconic to bring this award-winning film to our audience,” said Christina Strassfield, Executive Director of the Southampton Arts Center.
