One Dead As Two Vehicle Collision In Southampton Shuts Down County Road 39A

At approximately 7 a.m. this morning a westbound Hampton Jitney Ambassador and an eastbound SUV collided in a fatal accident in Southampton causing County Road 39A to be shut down in both directions.

The Hampton Jitney Ambassador bus collided with an SUV near St. Andrews Road on County Road 39A. It has been reported that the SUV swerved into the Hamptons Jitney’s lane. The female driver of the SUV was pronounced dead on the scene. Hampton Jitney has confirmed that there were no passengers on board the bus at the time and that the driver and attendant were taken to Southampton Hospital.

The Southampton Town Police, New York State Police, and Southampton Town Highway Department are reportedly currently on the scene. Southampton Fire Department trucks are on the scene.

As of 11:30 a.m. the accident is still causing traffic to be backed up past East Quogue and all eastbound traffic coming into Southampton is being diverted down Tuckahoe Road onto Montauk Highway.

Drivers on the North Fork are feeling the effects as ferry traffic coming from Greenport across Shelter Island to Sag harbor, in an attempt to skirt the accident, are reportedly waiting upwards of two hours in lines that wrap through the Village of Greenport.
