Inaugural Hamptons Shoreline Sweep Is This Weekend

“As a community, it is our responsibility to aide the town in which we live,” noted Dell R. Cullum of ImaginationNature.com. “We are fortunate here on the Eastern End of Long Island to have such beautiful beaches.”

As a photographer, one of the things Cullum appreciates most is the stunning East End landscape. The Hamptons resident hopes to help preserve the scenic shores and is asking locals to lend a helping hand. ImaginationNature.com in cooperation with East Hampton Town and Litter Committee are hosting the first annual Shoreline Sweep 2014 on Saturday, February 15. Groups will pick up trash at beaches spanning from Wainscott to Montauk.

Cullum also hopes to collect data about which areas have higher and lower trash volume as well as what is being tossed the most and why.

“It’s easier to say, ‘It’s not my job to pick that up’ or ‘The Town, or someone who’s job it is will eventually get to that,’ than it is to actually pick it up yourself and throw it away,” said Cullum. “As residents, we need to do more individually or in groups to not only help keep our town clean but to educate those who may have forgotten how ugly trash looks on our beaches, parks and even our streets.”
