Children’s Museum Of The East End Debuts New Outdoor Nine-Hole Miniature Golf Exhibit

“We continue to look for new and creative ways to engage and teach kids while they enjoy themselves at CMEE,” said Stephen Long, CMEE’s Executive Director. “Our new mini-golf course achieves both of those goals by making it fun to learn about physics while navigating each hole.”

The Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) officially opened their new outdoor nine-hole miniature golf course on Saturday, May 24, 2014. Keeping with the Museum’s mission to encourage learning through play and activities, the new course teaches children the basic concepts of physics and math through informational (and bilingual) signs placed at each hole and in the scorecards. The entire course is wheelchair accessible.

This is the first new exhibit to be completed as part of the Museum’s Two Million Capital Campaign announced last fall. In addition to the miniature golf course, the campaign will fund the addition of several stimulating original exhibits, including an energy exhibit and a redesigned ship exhibit. This operation will also enable The Children’s Museum to grow its partnerships with local social service organizations to address fundamental issues affecting underserved families in the community. These issues include, assisting parents and children affected by domestic violence, educating young families about childhood obesity and the importance of nutrition and promoting literacy and language acquisition for immigrants.

“We are thrilled to open the first new exhibit funded by our Capital Campaign ahead of the summer season,” said Amy Tarr, the President of CMEE’s Board of Trustees. “And we are looking forward to introducing more exciting museum enhancements in the near future, as we continue to build towards our fundraising goal.”

The course is open during the Museum hours, which are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, and the last group tees off one hour before the Museum closes. The cost to play the whole course is five dollars per person, which does not include or require museum admission. Unlimited miniature golf is now included at the Friend Membership level and above.
