The Southampton Historical Museum is commemorating life during the 18th and 19th century in Southampton as part of their Harvest Day Fair at the Rogers Mansion on Saturday, September 26th. Taking place during the 5th annual Southampton SeptemberFest, a modern harvest of fun with music, dance, food, history, and art, museum visitors will be transported to a simpler time, when both adults and children alike were relied upon to make a sustainable home life.
“The Southampton Historical Museum is at its best during its annual Harvest Day Fair,” shared Tom Edmonds, Executive Director of Southampton Historical Museums and Research Center. “Costumed guides lead workshops in 19th century hand crafts like blacksmithing, quilting, corn husk doll making, carpentry, decoy carving and many more activities.”
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., attendees can learn about the era from costumed trade and craft people, who will demonstrate decoy carving, beekeeping, blacksmithing, candle making, basketry, and several other traditional skills.
“It’s a fun day for people of all ages who enjoy experiencing Southampton’s rich heritage,” noted Edmonds.
