Looking to add a little more love to your life just in time for Valentine’s Day? Then join Southampton Animal Shelter (SASF) for “Senior Dog Day @ the Hampton Bays Public Library.”
“SASF is very excited for Senior Day at the Hampton Bays Library,” shared Kate McEntee, Director of Marketing SASF. “It is so great to bring awareness and feature our senior pets.” Unfortunately there is often a large population of older animals that reside in shelters. “Senior pets end up in shelters more often than people think,” explained McEntee. “In fact many shelters are filled with healthy and active senior dogs.”
Sometimes shelter visitors overlook the adorable four-legged friends solely because of their age. “We cannot look past these seniors simply because they are older,” added McEntee. “They still have a lot of love to give, many balls to catch and miles of smiles to go.” And with them being more mature, they’re already veterans when it comes to interacting with their new home and family. “Most senior dogs and cats were owned and know how to behave in a house,” said McEntee. “They know how to get along with a family and are already house trained! Adopting a senior is like skipping to the best part.”
“Come on in and meet a senior shelter pet,” invites Donna Valle of the Hampton Bays Library. “We will also be making crafts and eating snacks. Who knows? You may even adopt your new senior pet that day!
