Springs School Students’ Green Thumb On Display During Plant Sale And Fundraiser

Now that the what seemed endless rain has finally subsided and it looks like we won’t be cooped up inside again this weekend, it’s time to start thinking about enjoying the fresh air and maybe even adding a few new colorful, fragrant and nutritious items to your garden.

On Saturday, May 14th, shop local and pick up a variety of school grown goods when Project MOST’s Springs Seedlings presents its annual Plant Sale in Eileen’s Garden located in the greenhouse behind the Springs School. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the public can peruse through a plethora of organic herbs, organic vegetables, and flowers, all of which were grown in Project MOST’s greenhouse by Springs School students. Shoppers can also purchase “bugs be gone” decorative planters, which are always a hit with attendees.

“Grown with love and tiny fingers, all our plants are organic and planted by the students at the Springs School,” explained Hailey P. London, RD, Nutrition Dragon. “From pumpkins, flowers, herbs and any vegetable you can think of, we have it! Even if you are not in the market for seedlings, stop by and visit our school garden.”

Project MOST’s mission is to turn non-school hours into education experiences that encourage natural curiosity. The not for profit organization’s Springs Seedlings Project focuses on environment and garden and nutrition learning. The program aims to show students the importance of health and nutrition by familiarizing them with the joy of eating locally produced food. Project MOST has a greenhouse located at Spring Schools where budding gardeners learn how to grow, harvest, prepare and eat fresh and nutritious foods.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Project MOST and the Springs Seedlings Project.

Later in the month St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Outreach Committee is hosting Brunch on the Harbor in support of Project MOST. On Sunday, May 22nd, Chef Damien O’Donnel of Harbor Bistro will present an all you can eat brunch buffet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the benefit. Admission ranges from $10 to $50.
