Be Bold, Be Bald! and stand in solidarity with cancer fighters across the nation on Friday, October 21st. The social movement began in 2009 when individuals, businesses, and celebrities vouched to wear bald caps from the moment they wake up to the moment they go to sleep on Be Bold, Be Bald! day. The hope is to raise awareness and funds for cancer fighting charities from coast to coast.
This campaign has raised over $1 million with participation from famous faces such as American Horror Story actress Kathy Bates, Julian Edelman of the New England Patriots, Kingdom actress Jessica Szohr, musician Peter Wolf, journalist, author, and television personality Joan Lunden, and many more.
Be Bold, Be Bald! was created by Jeff Freedman, owner of Boston-based advertising agency Small Army and his team of excellent employees. Small Army’s family was tragically hit with a devastating blow when co-founder and Creative Principal Mike Connell lost his battle with cancer. The company wanted to keep Connell’s passion alive and dedicated themselves to giving back to those touched by cancer. Small Army For A Cause was created in Connell’s honor. It raises and distributes funds to a beneficiary network of cancer-related charities.
“Witnessing Mike’s heroic, two-year fight, we saw firsthand the courage and strength cancer patients have,” said Freedman. “He inspired us to continue that fight ourselves – and to do so in a way that would truly represent the boldness of Mike and his ideas.”

Nicole Poli will be spearheading the Hamptons Be Bold, Be Bald! campaign to raise money for the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Southampton Hospital. The volunteer-driven group is dedicated to “early detection and empowerment to bring about better health care and an improved quality of life.” To find out more about this local beneficiary, visit beboldbebald.org.
